About

Alina Arenal is a contemporary collage artist based in New York City. Using a wide assortment of materials such as paper, photographs, fabric, vinyl, packaging, yarn and thread, she deconstructs, then reconstructs them with jumbled relationships into new forms. Sometimes she deconstructs her own made collages to use as well. The materials come together as almost familiar yet abstract scenes; otherworldly landscapes. An early career working in theater film and television, has informed her practice contributing to her interest in using raw materials as the building blocks of story telling. Influenced by Kurt Schwitters and Rauschenberg, the mixed-medium artist Alberto Burri and the film-maker Abbas Kiarostami, Alina believes collage has a unique capacity to address and reflect issues both timely and timeless. Her work has most recently been shown at Pictor Gallery in Chelsea NYC and The Fourth Wall Gallery in Berlin.
